How I Shop for Low-Tox Products Without Falling for Marketing BS

If you have ever shopped for low-tox or natural products, the task can be daunting…

Companies tend to “greenwash” their products so unsuspecting consumers purchase them with no second thought. Customers think that they are using a “healthy” product while companies profit off of this deceptive marketing.

Greenwash“To market one’s brand or products as eco friendly, natural, or healthier then they truly are.”

So where do I even begin?

Start with one product. Don’t switch everything at the same time, as it can make you overwhelmed!

What is your reason for wanting to switch products?

  • Do you want to reduce your carbon footprint?
  • Use healthier products for your family?
  • Go with all naturally sourced products?

I often turn to a few select apps to help explain and educate me on healthier ingredients and products for my family.

Think Dirty App

Cost: Limited free subscription, optional paid subscription.

Covers: skincare, cosmetics, hygiene, household, vitamins and supplements, cleaning products.

Scan products quickly via barcode to see their ingredients or manually add your own products.

Create your shelf and let the app rate it according to how healthy your products are. It will show you your top ingredients and how good or bad they rank on the “think dirty” scale (0 = clean, 10 = dirty).

Keep track of your clean swaps or future swaps by creating an account.

Shop for healthier products through various links directly through the app.
