How did we already reach our son’s first birthday? What happened to our 5.6-pound preemie baby who arrived six weeks early?
Part of me is proud that I survived the long days of my first year of motherhood, while another part of me wonders where all the time has vanished.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
I love watching him grow and change each month into such a cool little boy right before my eyes. But I also know he’s never going to get any smaller. He won’t be this little forever… and that truth makes my heart hurt.
There are days when I think things will get easier when he’s older. But I also know there will come a day when I’ll miss him being this small and new to the world.
It’s a part of parenthood you don’t fully understand until you’re living it yourself. People warn you about it when your baby is first born. The weight of it doesn’t really hit until it sneaks up on you, quietly and gradually, as your baby grows right before your eyes.
I love the little boy he’s growing into, but I’ll miss the little baby he was. Parenthood is learning to mourn and love each stage of your child—the different versions of them you’re lucky enough to meet along the way as they grow. Each stage is a blessing you get to watch unfold and be a part of.
Psalm 127:3
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.”
Parenthood is a rollercoaster of emotions. If you haven’t felt this yet, or if you have, you’re not alone. Either way, it will all be okay. We’re all strapped in, whether we’re ready or not.
